Course Overview

Intro

This MQF Level 7 Award (10 ECTS) explores the various financial risks that all companies have to confront. These include credit risk, liquidity and refinancing risk, interest-rate risk, foreign exchange risk and operational risk.

This module examines how these risks can be both measured and managed. It uses real-life case studies of risk management practices adopted in the public and private sectors.

By the end of the module, students should be competent at knowing how managers can mitigate and manage financial risks within institutions.

Overall competences

During this module, our students will:

• Integrate knowledge from various sources to make judgements about how public and private companies, as well as nonprofits, can raise finance.
• Learn about the different features of financing instruments.
• Carry out a financial ‘risk mapping exercise of a company or organisation, and assume responsibility for it.
• Propose a financial risk management strategy and assume responsibility for it.
