Course Overview

Intro

This MQF Level 7 module (8 ECTS) examines the central tenets and developments in management science since its inception. Students will have the opportunity to critically evaluate the main theories and understand the differences between management and leadership theories. Moreover, they will be able to analyse the functions of management and leadership within an organisation. 

Given the increasingly intercultural and globally-connected nature of the business sphere, this module also addresses cross-cultural perspectives on leadership and management. It also explores the issues the managers and leaders face when working in intercultural contexts. Finally, this comprehensive award course supports the student in developing the necessary skills, competencies and knowledge to thrive in their managerial career. 

Overall competences

During this module, our students will:

• Learn about the main theoretical aspects of management and leadership.
• Develop a critical understanding of national, regional cultural and institutional contexts.
• Analyse their position on critical social and ethical issues to implement these beliefs in practical settings.
• Monitor and analyse the various leadership styles managers use to influence and control the internal environment.
• Learn how to lead a team by implementing an effective leadership style and assuming responsibility for decisions taken.
