Course Overview

Intro

This MQF Level 6 module (4 ECTS) explores various communication disorders, including Language Disorder, Speech Sound Disorder, Childhood-Onset Fluency Disorder (Stuttering), and Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder. These disorders can comorbid with other conditions, such as ADHD, Autism, Anxiety Disorders, conduct disorders and intellectual disabilities.

The LSE requires the necessary knowledge to understand how these conditions impede the learning process. This knowledge enables the educator to adapt learning activities according to the student’s needs and capabilities.

• Diagnosing and assessing communication difficulties

• Use of technology to support individuals with communication difficulties and language disorders

Overall competences

During this module, our students will:

• Identify the characteristics of learners with communication difficulties and language disorders.
• Analyse the causes and prevalence of communication difficulties and language disorders.
• Assess the educational and behavioural levels of children with communication difficulties and language disorders.
• Learn teaching strategies that support this group of children.
• Learn how to create an individualised, needs-based lesson plan.
• Collaborate with other professionals and parents for the student’s benefit.
• Suggest possible IEP goals for this group of children.
• Learn how to record and communicate the student’s progress.
