Course Overview

Intro
The increasing demands for more specialised health services on the Maltese healthcare system, driven by an ageing population, mean that the country requires more qualified health professionals — including nutritionists — to meet these growing needs.
Malta Leadership Institute’s M.Sc. Applied Nutrition enables interested participants to pursue a full Master’s Degree on a part‑time basis.
Through this Master’s programme, students will explore a wide range of nutrition topics (such as healthy diets, disease prevention, medical anthropology, and more), discuss ethical and psychological issues, and delve into specialised areas within the field of nutrition.
Overall Competences
During this course, our students will:
- Discuss and determine what healthy nutrition is and involves.
- Describe the core ethical issues involved in eating and feeding.
- Discuss the core psychological and ethical issues related to nutrition.
- Determine the constituents of food.
- Learn how to make healthy choices when shopping.
- Plan and prescribe the best diets related to different medical conditions encountered in a hospital, institution or community setting.
- Discuss the principle factors linked to nutrition in relation to calorific needs, nutrient requirements, mineral and vitamin deficiencies and food allergies.
- Learn how to devise tailor-made diet plans to meet the respective client requirements.
- Manage and implement clinical nutrition strategies based on the latest research and technology.
Mode of Delivery
The Master of Science in Applied Nutrition will be delivered through blended learning, with 50% of contact hours delivered online and the remaining 50% delivered face‑to‑face.
