Award in Maltese Language (Proficiency Level)

Certificate in English Proficiency

Intro

In the labour market, Maltese proficiency is a necessity and is often sought out by employers. The lack of a proficiency certificate or equivalent is seen as a disadvantage, and with the competitive work environment we live in today, job seekers need to stay ahead of the curve.

Maltese is Malta’s national language and one of the two official languages used throughout the country of Malta. It is the island’s mother tongue and communication, comprehension, reading and writing skills in the language are necessary to properly navigate life on the island effectively. Using English alone will only allow for so much, and disadvantage some from qualifying for particular occupational, social and personal endeavours. Moreover, it is also the cornerstone of integration in the Maltese society, particularly important for foreigners.

The course provides preparation in fundamental skills for functioning in the labour market in Malta as well as access to courses for LSEs, Health and Social Care, and Business and Leadership at MLI. This course will provide opportunities and support that can be applied to learning and can give access to better job opportunities and advances in one’s career.

Overall Competences

Upon completion, the individual will obtain:

  1. Knowledge of what is expected from them at work and at home in Maltese as specified in the National Maltese Curriculum.
  2. Basic Maltese knowledge and skills in order to function efficiently in everyday life at work, at home and elsewhere.

Mode of Delivery

The Award in Maltese Langauge (Proficiency Level) will be delivered through blended learning, with 50% of contact hours delivered online and the other 50% of contact hours delivered face-to-face.
