Intro

Real estate has developed into a successful but complex industry in Malta and the days when everyone could decide to act as a real estate agent without the necessary knowledge and professionalism are long gone. This qualification will provide participants with the basic professional knowledge and competencies to provide a professional service to the parties involved in a real estate transaction (buying/selling/letting).

The Award in Real Estate is specifically designed for individuals seeking to become professional property brokers, real estate agents, branch managers and property consultants as per Maltese Law Act Chapter 615 (https://legislation.mt/eli/cap/615/eng/pdf) and as stipulated in the Licensing of Real Estate Agents, Property Brokers, Branch Managers and Property Consultants by the Real Estate Licensing Board). 

Overall Competences

During this module, our students will:

  • Describe the evolution of the real estate market in Malta and its economic impact on the Maltese economy
  • Define the principles essential for understanding the economic problem, specific economic issues, and policy alternatives
  • Describe the different categories and types of properties in Malta
  • Identify the laws and regulations governing real estate in Malta and advise clients accordingly
  • List the obligations of the Real Estate Agent as a subject person arising out of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act
  • Define the sources of finance available to clients and related procedures
  • Recall the Data Protection Act and its implications when recording customer data and processing identification documents
  • Describe the fundamental economic principles as applied to the real estate market
  • Identify investments based on sound financial investment appraisal techniques and calculations
  • Understand structural construction drawings, notes, schedules, specifications and details
  • Define the basic return on investment and taxation impact assessments on relevant property transfers
  • Explain how to coordinate efficiently notarial matters and meetings such as for the promise of sales and property transfer contracts
  • Explain how to escalate money laundering suspicious transactions reports in a proper manner, and use a risk-based approach to customers and transactions
  • Identify data, markets and trends to produce a valuation report of different types of properties
  • Explain how to conduct property negotiations and close sales efficiently
  • Describe the function of government institutions governing and regulating real estate in Malta
  • Match the client’s needs with the corresponding ideal properties on the market
  • Explain to clients how to present their property on the market
  • Describe how to communicate effectively with architects, notaries and other related professionals within the real estate sector
  • Describe how to provide professional customer service before, during and after a transaction.
  • Gain insight on the principles of health and safety
  • Identify the different hazards in the workplace
  • Gain skills to apply strategies that avoid and minimise health and safety issues in the workplace
  • Gain skills to conduct an informal risk assessment and its review
  • Gain learning skills to report and respond to a health and safety incident in the workplace.
  • Develop a Health and Safety Policy
  • Gain learning skills to apply the main principles of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

The Letter of Acceptance will only be issued once the course deposit has been paid. We should receive the deposit at least fifteen (15) days before the course start date.
All applicants should present (in paper or digital format) all the certificates that are needed to assess eligibility. These need to be sent at least a day before the course start date. For more information regarding eligibility criteria, kindly refer to the information that was sent to you by our team.
You must complete the following exemption form: https://form.jotformeu.com/jesfrig/rpl. You need to make this request when applying for the course. An official response will be issued during the first week of the course.
If for any reason, you decide to drop out, you need to inform us at least 10 (ten) days before. If we are informed ten (10) days plus before, you are still entitled to a partial refund (according to the amount of deposit requested and the MQF Level of the course).
If you want to switch courses (e.g. from the Certificate course to the Diploma course within the same faculty), you need to inform us at least two weeks before starting the course. If this change requires an additional deposit fee, then this change will be only accepted on the condition that we receive the payment immediately. Unfortunately, we cannot accept such changes if you've already started the original course.
