A supervisor serves as a link between the subordinates and the upper management. Such a role involves coaching new employees, coming up with new, creative ideas that save money, increasing productivity, establishing company credibility and earning the subordinates' respect. 

A supervisor should:

  • Assign work: He/She designates duties to employees, explaining beforehand how these should be carried out.

  • Evaluate the employee's performance: He/she pays attention to the employees when they are working and makes sure that everything is running smoothly.

  • Reward high performance: This incentivises employees to work harder.

The supervisor should be a leader when it comes to supporting and directing employees,  being their 'friend' to make them feel at ease. At the same time, he/she must make sure that there is a sense of order and discipline.
